Mini Quilts - a dangerous addition!
How ‘mini’ can a Mini Quilt be?
A mini quilt can be any size and usually tends to be no bigger than 24” square. They can be wall hangings, mug rugs, or doll quilts and if you enjoy using Instagram or Pinterest for quilting inspiration you have probably come across plenty of mini quiltmakers. Even the month of May is dedicated to making these darling little creations - search the hashtag #microminisal on the ‘gram and you’ll get lost in hundreds of beautiful works of art that are in miniature form.

Mini quilts are also a fabulous way of using up scrap fabric, and we all know how nice it is to be able to do that! I am relatively new to the mini quilt world however I have seen many Pinterest posts where quilters have taken their favourite foundation paper piecing design and shrunk it as small as they can to create a whole new miniature version of their original pattern.
The smallest quilt?
The smallest mini quilt I have been able to make so far has measured 2 3/4” by 2 1/4” and it’s a very simple strip piece mini quilt using small off-cuts from other projects however I am curious to know if I can go smaller.

The Favourite!
My favourite mini quilt so far has been been made using a folded star pattern and is apparently a very popular potholder pattern. There are two methods to make it but I wanted to try the easiest first before attempting the version that involves lots of layers and an almost braided method of creating a star centrepiece.
