Covid, Quilting and a Brand New Venture

Covid, Quilting and a Brand New Venture

What a turbulent couple of months it has been! Well, turbulent might not be the right word as that suggests movement whereas we here in Ontario, like many across the globe, have done nothing but stay inside for weeks on end.

November 22nd: that was the last date I was allowed to walk into a store of my own free will other than the supermarket/grocery store. Now we are staring March in the face and looking at a sobering anniversary: 1 year of muted existence, lockdowns and social distance.

Anyhoo, enough of that; on to brighter things like fabrics and mini quilts and a new venture which I hope will help provide someone a means to smile.

While waiting for various fabrics and notions to arrive via the extremely over-stretched postal service I came to the conclusion that in order to justify buying new fabric, I needed to tackle a small (but growing) container of cut-offs and scraps. Having just completed another wonderful Lori Holt quilt - Autumn Love - I now have a rather daunting amount of fabric that is too large to be called scrap but too small to use for another quilt. Although this really isn’t a ‘problem’ per se it does bring forth the question of what to do with it and, naturally, scrappy quilts came to mind.

In my previous post, which I am ashamed to see was from back in June 2020, I talked about using up scraps and I had put in a picture of the string pieces I was working on. I am happy to say that become a lovely postage stamp quilt that now awaits quilting. I also finished my Rainbow Bargello (oh, boy! Was that an epic adventure!) which now sits on my sons’ bed as he’s decided it makes a comfy pillow…

For my other scraps, I’ve started making things that are more useful; pot holders, postcards, mini quilts and stand-alone pictures but there are only so many bits I can keep (or so I am trying to convince myself!). So, with that said, I am going to try something new which will hopefully be available in the not-too-distant future and I hope it will bring a way to give me a fun way to keep going in between projects while also providing others with a ‘little something’ to enjoy looking at or using. It’s all very exciting!
