Happy New Year - May your 2022 be bigger and better than before!

Happy New Year - May your 2022 be bigger and better than before!

And so we begin again!

That’s right; now we embark upon 2022 and all the twists and turns that it has to offer - I’m not sure whether to feel excited or apprehensive.

I don’t know where you are reading from, but I sit in Toronto, Canada, fresh into new restrictions due to… you-know-what... Once again I have 2 kids parked in front of computers trying their best to find a way to be involved in the virtual classes their teacher are valiantly putting together while a young dog, happy to have everyone home, tries his best to distract them.

This year I am starting off my quilting journey without a machine :( Having tried hard to fix never-ending looping from the bobbin I decided the best thing to do was to take my Singer in to get serviced. The last time it went in to be serviced the pandemic was in full swing and anyone who could sew was making masks. This resulted in an unprecedented level of sewing machine services so it took 6 weeks to get my machine back. Thankfully I only have to wait 2 weeks this time round but there are moments when it feels like an eternity, especially when I really need to have my ‘alone’ time. On a side note, one thing I did do was to ‘start as I mean to go on’; I am determined to spend this year turning the many quilt tops sitting in a storage box into finished quilts so I spent New Years Day on my dining room floor, pinning a quilt sandwich!

In my lost moments I entertain myself by looking at new machines and having watched numerous videos I now have a wish list - a Janome Memory Craft 9450! Having extra arm space for quilting would be a dream but I will have to start saving my pennies if I eventually want to own something of that caliber.

Another adventure I’m embarking on is learning Graphic Design through Affinity Designer. I have absolutely no idea how to do anything like that so this is going to be a big leap for me but I have a dream (yes, another one) to one day be able to design my own fabric. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?! Being able to make fabric with exactly the designs I love to see would be such fun, but I have a long way to go before that happens and I have bought a few online courses to help me on my journey - Wish me luck!
