2022 Goals Update
August 2022: How Many Quilts have been completed?
Answer: 2!
Ask me where the time has gone and I couldn’t possibly answer, but one thing that did put a big stopper on my January declaration was my sewing machine. My trusty Singer Quantum bit the dust this year, causing more frustration and woe than I could stand. My new year resolution to turn all the quilt tops I had into actually finished quilts came to a grinding halt as I tried to get the machine fixed but it became very clear it was not to be.
But this story has a wonderful ending! After much research and watching endless YouTube videos I settled on my new machine and this week, I picked up a beauty: a Janome Memory Craft 6670P.
A Quick Overview
Although I’ve only had my new machine for a week I’ve already been able to complete a quilt for an impending new family arrival due in November. The extra throat space has to be my top appreciation and it was such a great experience to work with, even though I was only quilting a lap-size quilt. Having the space to manoeuvre the quilt easily meant I saved time and didn’t get frustrated when I couldn’t quilt more than a few millimetres at a time! The Memory Craft also comes with a huge extension table allowing for even more control of the quilt.
I haven’t used any of the stitch designs yet but there are some wonderful sewing-themed ones which I didn’t have before that I look forward to using. Free-motion quilting was a breeze and finding the right tension was fairly easy, another time-saving feature that was greatly appreciated.
Picking Up Where I Left Off
Now I have a new machine I am hopeful that I can continue my quest to quilt all the finished tops I have sitting folded away. I added one more to the pile, another wonderful Lori Holt creation called Sew Happy, and like The Vintage Housewife quilt, I think that will be outlined rather than intricately detailed. I am excited to be back on my quilt journey - I felt an emptiness in my time when I was unable to be in my favourite space!
