…I had this crazy idea that I could hand sew a queen-size quilt, following in the footsteps of my husband’s Mennonite grandmothers. It started off very positively as I knew the design I was going to use and the fabric I wanted, however, what I did not realize was that I had just put my foot on a path that would take hundreds of different turns into various quilting adventures!
Caithness is located on the northwest coast of Scotland and it’s where my family has lived for several generations, although I am based in Toronto with my husband and 2 kids.
I class myself as a novice quilter even though I’ve been quilting for nearly a decade. I’m always on the lookout for new skills or methods to try so I can apply them to the various projects in the works.
I have learned that my quilting time is my dedicated ‘Me Time’; it’s where I make endless cups of tea, I have soft jazz music playing in the background and I’m surrounded by things that bring my heart joy, such as colourful fabric or an appliqué block. It’s where I find peace and solitude and although mental health monsters lurk in the background, they don’t always make it past the bright light that quilting has shone on my life.
The little bars at the top (or bottom, depending on where you are) will take you to the blog or to the gallery. If you want to see the latest project or photograph, click on “Quilting Adventures’ or ‘Quilts Past & Present’ to see more.
P.S: The original quilt is still in the works - I’ll probably finish it when I’m a very old Granny!
